The more cynical amongst you may be of the opinion that the BBC needs more money. What with the cost of compensation for the 70/80s fiddly diddlers and other such shenanigans , Government Ministers needing more expenses to keep, them supplied with Amyl nitrate, oranges, bin liners, the latest issue of Vacuum Cleaner World ( excellent feature on suction this month), jollies over to China to see your new best friends ( shows what a waste of money the invention of Video Conferencing was......how much was the carbon footprint increased flying that shower of self promoting tw@s to China?)

obviously not my views I hasten to add

i feel a grumpy rant brewing...but I am better than that :innocent

Its great to be watching the utd v city game on sky. I also have sky box office tonight for free. The only drawback is that it is not in hd. Still considering i've started wearing glasses for the first time last week, everything seems ti be hd.

Zlatan has just started the comeback

Do you have setanta,? Some HD works on that, or, virgin is in HD, are you in the south,?

Personally, I can live with SD, £35year for 3 lines, gives me dual tuner in house and single in shed , all I ever watch is BT sport or Eurosport, or occasionally Motors TV (speedway and MX),  or BBCNI, that's the channels that show the bike racing,

Yes we have setanta but it has been rebranded as eir this is to tie in with the rebranding of eircom in the south. BT sport and setanta no longer works in HD since the summer. I don't really care about hd/sd. I pay €60 a year for 15 months. Apparently i have all the sky's across europe but i couldn't be bothered installing a big dish to pick up the hotbird satellite. It would suit a foreigner such as @misssweden to watch their native tv I know polish people who run it for polish tv. I have 2 c-lines installed in my zgemma so if one drops out the other takes over.

You realise you can set up a zgemma box to the ni region (101  = bbcni 103=utv etc) even if you are over in the uk.

The zgemma also does automatic channel updates.

I thought eurosport was a free to air channel anyhow.

Trust a fellow irish/ norn iron person to be running this set-up.

P.S No i'm in the occupied six counties lol ;)

There used to be a lot of pubs round here that had hooky satellite setups to show the games, all ways struck me as odd that the rest of the world gets to watch football for free and we English muppets have to pay through the nose for it!

As an aside, a part of the equality policies of one of the councils I work for is including hotbird dishes on their blocks!

  :C

London councils are very good at wasting money especially if they can do it in the name of social inclusion.

Not sure how its done tbh. Not my area but the communal setups are massive on some estates, 3 or 4 dishes, a couple of antenna's and tones of cable.

The custom outlet plates have  TV, FM, satellite, hotbird and turksat outputs,  then virgin & sky get involved and it gets really messy.

The one thing you will not be short of in social housing is tv channel's to watch so you can forget all about the BBC!

When l lived in Brum l did one of my neighbours a favour.

I lent him my sds drill so he could fix a satellite dish on his house.

His mate came and tuned it in.

We ran a feed to my house and his brother bought me a decoder box when he visited his family in Yemen.

I had Hotbird and Arabsat.

A couple of thousand channels for free.

It was fantastic.

Sky is a rip off and boring.

Sky, the more money you pay them, the more they can buy excluisve rights to the football etc etc that used to be free on BBC / ITV. I never did understand how people could be so stupid as to fall for this lettuced

The problem with Satellite / Cable in the UK is that its a stitch up between the big 2, at the expense of the consumer. The EU has allowed TV rights to be "within" country borders so there will never be anybody to challenge these vendors .......

I barely even watch british tv @rapparee. Dear ex-boyfriend took the telly with him when he moved out, so all I do now is watch the bakeoff on the ipad and that's pretty much it. :)
You'll still need a tv licence for an ipad lol.

I was wrong in saying that you would be able to get swedish tv on hotbird. It is actually the thor5 and thor6 satelittes that carry the nordic channels.

(I thought you were a hotbird, turns out you're just a scary viking warrior god lol)

It is possible to recieve these in the uk you would need a dish pointing 1* west and a reciever box with a swedish viasat cccam, oh and you would also need a tv lol.

There was a woman who was allowed to show eu tv in her pub. She took it to eu court and won. Obviously murdoch has his hand that far up the british governments *** the local courts found in favour of bskyb.

Ye, I have an old skybox F5 in shed and an edision  mini twin sat in house on a sly skin, I have the NI regions in a separate bouquet, surprising the amount of different programmes showing in different regions sometimes, as I said, I really only watch bike racing, which is never shown on the uk regions apart from perhaps BSB occasionally, deffo no NW200 never mind the  smaller races.

My mates lad got a 15th at the UGP, :)
