Hi all virgin poster, what pressure?

We're just coming to terms with Part P and any form of certification in fairness. This means that in the past we did a job, add spur/ring/CCU cct./ shower or whatever with no regard to upgrading existing bondong/earthing or DB (RCD/RCBO's/ELCB) whatever was there was part of history.

I am trying to comply as near as possible every time but as with any new procedure there are always grey areas and the customer just thinks you're ripping them off ("you didn,t spend several extra hours certificating last time and why do you need to run a new green cable to my boiler/cold water feed etc. when all i want is a socket moved in my bedroom and my fuseboard was OK last time you were here") How do you deal with that? No Part P publicity in IOM!!!

Right down to a few questions

1./ What are the bonding options for:-

Boiler/Pipe in garage/shed attached to house (DB in house or garage)

Boiler/Pipe in Garage/shed not attached

Boiler and pipe in boiler in external metal casing

1./ a. How on earth (no pun intended) do you deal with bonding incoming water pipe under sink when kitchen is finished with no easy access.

2./ What is your view on metal capping (it's a metal enclosure in my book and shouldn't be used, or has to be earthed" ECA mixed opinion on this one. My reading of the regs is that cables in safe zones don't need protecting and I know metal capping is dangerous (hole drilled nicking live not earth and screw making capping and wall live etc).

I'm going to leave it there but I will be back as we are in unchartered territory over here and you guys have had a few years to come to terms with Part P.

1)

(a) bond the water gas oil pipe work (& any other extraneous conductive parts) in the house using 10mm.

(B) bond the water gas oil pipe work (& any other extraneous conductive parts) in the house using 10mm. Dont worry about bonding in the shed unless it has extraneous conductive parts.

© if gas oil & water pipe work are bonded all is okay

2) run the bonding conductor externaly then drill through wall into area below the sink or where the stop cock is. Or use trunking internaly.

3) Metal capping dont use it myself, but cant be classed as an encloure as it only covers cable not encloses it (my take on it anyway) if cables are outside of safe zones I either go 50mm deep or used galv tube & earth it & of course the obligatory RCD...
