No, someone recently asked if they could have forum members email the PDF to them.

No as that would be against copyright law.
Now there's a debate starter. Copyright law makes the provision for an electronic backup and that's all this would be if you owned a copy of 7671 already.

But the IET/IEE do not do an electronic version so you would be in breach of copyright law making one without their permission;)

Section 50A(1) of the Copyright, Designs & Patents Act 1988 ('the Act') states that it is not an infringement of copyright if the back-up is made for the lawful user and is necessary for their lawful use.

The previous thread was "Pulled" because of copyright law.

Ian, If you would be kind enough to email that quote to the IEE/IET and ask them for their take/permission, and post the reply here, I will leave this thread active mate.

Best Wishes,

Admin.

That would imply that was referring to You, the owner of the Big Red Book. Not someone on the net that you don't know as having an official copy of it. I don't believe that it covers you sending a "PDF version to anyone else", Mate?!

I would agree with this, however distributing that copy to a third party would be an infringment of the copyright.

That is already answered on page 2 of the said publication..

about 1/3 way down the page...

In the paragraph under the line wot says © 2008 The Institute Of Engineering and Technology and BSI.

5th line down into the paragraph.. publication may be reproduce

"ONLY WITH THE PRIOR PERMISSION IN WRITING OF THE PUBLISHERS"
Then it gives the address you need to write to

The Institute of Engineering and Technology.

Michael Faraday House,

Six Hills Way.

quite clear and to the point IMHO! :) :|

put the kettle on

That is what I meant Mr Specs, Ask for their permission (actually what is intended) and see what their take/permission is.

I know the answer. ;)

Technically even quoting a single Regulation could be seen as a breach of copyright.

However, if the copying is for research, private study, criticism or review then it is allowed without the need for written permission.

Agreed, under the law there is the concept of fair usage.

What does annoy me is the fact that the goverment produces legislation we must abide by, then charges us stupid prices to tell us what we are supposed to be complying with.

We have discussed this cost issue before...

When we get back into the real world of cost BS7671 is not actually that expensive!

remember we are NOT talking about a high volume best seller that Tescos will want to run as a loss-leader for

The point I am trying to make is that you need to abide by the rule.

But we wont tell you what the rules are unless you pay.

If you park in your local supermarket and come out to find you have been clamped, and if you dispute it and they say read the parking rules, they are on sale for
