Then digitally mark the copies so they are traceable and the originator could be prosecuted. TBH I can see no benefit for only having the 'bootlegged' copy as you can not use it in exams nor will a little club accept it.

No, it's quite the opposite. I work hard, pay tax so the poor get benefits! The more I earn the more tax I pay. The less you earn the less tax you pay, to the point where if you do no work the government pays you.

bad day explode

This thread is making me cross!
no they dont

I DO

or WE DO

however you look at it.

decent people do,

not working in this country seems to have become a career of sorts.

Wonder if it will go down as we have had deflation for some time. I know the train fairs did and all the train companies complained about it. They could only put their fares up 1% above inflation (they put them up 7% jan 09 when in a recession, greedy ba****rds) and when measured it was below -1% so the fares went down (by about

If the prime requirement for having the regs on PDF or other electronic format; the "ESC" Technical manual, on DVD, is perfect. Fully searchable, with more helpful info than the BRB, and freely available to buy (if you know what I mean?)

all you need to do is guillotine the BRB into single a4 pages then use a multi document scanner with feeder.

i've done this and places like pronto print can do the scanning

this a bad time to say i actully have 7671 as pdf? use it on my phone at work saves carrying the book around :D

if i had a PDF of it, i wouldnt be bothered about using it 'officially', thats what the book is for.

but it would be useful to have on computer for searching or when i dont have the book with me

as said if you can prove you have a copy of the brb then owning a digital copy is covered by the fact you have already paid the publishers to view the material.

wouldnt this come under the same sort of thing as ripping music for the car, ipod or whatever,

as long as you have paid for the original and dont distribute.

I think someone mentioned this before IIRC,

I can't see a problem with that and I think you should be able to download a PDF of an British standard you own, after all it is in electronic form before it is converted to a book. The BSi watermark all the documents I have had from them in the past though so although you may technically be right, that's not how it works.

While we are on the subject, Does anybody know if the guidance notes still refer to the 16th or have they been updated to 17th edition?

I passed my 2330 toward the end of the 16th and had to buy two OSGs

GNs 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, and the OSG have been updated.

I don't have PDFs for them.

Believe it or not, the information that Nos. 1 and 4 have also been updated was only made available yesterday, after I posted.

No I don't believe that because my Guidance Note 1, Fifth edition incorporating BS7671:2008 17th ed regs, (ISBN: 978-0-86341-855-6)

has been in my possession for over 8 months now... maybe 9 or 10 actually?

Go back and check the IET's own link info...

Have a look here:http://www.theiet.org/publishing/books/

As you can see, there isn't even a mention of GN3.
and???

Still don't alter the fact GN1 has been out for ages, as has GN3 & GN4!

and BOTH 1 & 3 are sitting in me regs books box along side the BRB & OSG! ;)

I can only assume you haven't got a copy of either for 17th edition?

go to the bottom of your link and press the little link that says

"wiring regulation"

and you get this page....

http://www.theiet.org/publishing/books/wir-reg/index.cfm

where they can ALL be seen and their publication dates...
