You may have to be changed from Heels to Tool :pmsl;
Mmmmmm I am a little bit. OCD about tools

........just bought a nice set of Wiha slim vario drivers.  Did not come with an adapter to fit my Schneider branded (wiha) torque driver!....so i rang Wiha and they posted me one FOC!

Just torquing out loud!

Just a quick update.

Cable is defiently armoured 10 core with 2 cores getting used.

I have ordered the gel Crimps from Amazon.

I have ordered the IDT tool from e-bay.

Just to get the Master Socket.

Intend to tidy up the cable end by stripping back the SWA and a bit of heat shrink into it, stuffing gland it into a 3"x3" JB (under floor) and come out on a bit of 5 core to a nice shiney new Master box.

Hope that sounds OK and thanks for everyones help.

Cheers roys.

For what it's worth, I have NEVER seen BT terminate the SWA on their cables. It appears to be there for mechanical protection, not earthing.

In every new build I have seen the BT man come, they strip back the armour a LONG way. In your case they would strip back the armour to under the floor, and leave just the inner cable coming up through the floor.

Then you just have a 10 pair cable going into your master socket and 1 pair is used.

They normally leave all the other pairs just folded up an stuffed into the back of the box, presumably in case they are needed in the future.

If you have some slack under the floor, that's what I would do rather than extending the cable.

That's good to know Dave re how BT terminated it.  Think I will have to put in a JB though as it is like piano wire under the floor.

Cheers roys

Hi Dave, can't move the cable a foot the other way as that would mean the socket is in the kitchen instead of the hall, it is brought up currently at the stud wall between kitchen and hall coming from the kitchen direction.

Hi Slips, Yip supoose there is no harm in connecting up 5 of the 10 cores, not sure when the other 3 cores would ever be required on a BT cable as I take it they only ever use 2 cores?

Cheers roys

Don't forget to bond the armour back to the MET, after asking the operator or owners permission first - 411.3.1.2  :B-

I have a virtual pices of 6mm2 earth cable for that very job which I will duly connect to the virtual gland and virtual banjo on the BT cable :)
