Latest on the local news last night, a new cable is planned to span the channel to France arriving at Budleigh Salterton in Devon. This is to plug the gap in power generation in the Uk and make EDF richer of course.

The first link was in 1961 160MW. The second link 1986 2000MW. Both supposedly able to pass current in either direction. A bit of 2.5 flex would handle the amount we’ve exported to France.

N Irland > UK 2001 250MW

N Irland > UK 2004 80MW

Denmark >UK 2010 1000MW

Irland > UK 2012 500MW

Denmark >UK 2010 1000MW

To name a few

Blame it on the eco warriors.

eco warriors exist all over Europe hence Germany has more soalr panels than ou can shake a very large stick at, and France has decreed that all houses should have  a solar system. This is nothing to do with Eco types, and everything to do with lack of investment in the basic infrastruture needed to keep the lights on.

The green tech in the UK was doing a pretty rapid and effective job at helping to plug the hole left by closing power stations, and that's just been destroyed as well. It smacks of typical short sighted policies ie it's easier to run a cable than build a power station. As those familiar with my postings, nothing annoys me more than short sighted policies, but unfortunately this seems to emanate from 'free market capitalism' so beloved of a certain poilitical party.
