There is a small National Grid box (transformer?) on the row of electricity lines next to our hedge and lawn. The ground screw company replacing an existing outbuilding for us have noticed black armoured cables running down each pole of this box and are concerned they come into our garden. The poles/box is actually in the hedge in the farmers field next to our garden but some of its supports for the poles are on our lawn.

Obviously we would like to ensure the cables don’t run anywhere under our lawn where the foundations of the new outbuilding will be drilled. It’s a mystery as our house supply comes in elsewhere and there’s nothing else around except farmland. (The farmer had no idea they were there). I wondered if they were just earths of some kind and standard for this setup....can anyone shed any light? Thanks

Sorry yes I should have added I've emailed National Grid and still waiting for reply. Will try calling but just thought I'd ask here as well

It is not national grid you want, but your local DNO who I think for Cornwall is Western Power distribution.

The cables coming down the pole are likely to be low voltage (240V) supply. I think, though your pictures are not really showing the top of the pole, that the high voltage lines to the pole are overhead.

You can get an idea where they might go by looking at the location of nearby houses that they are likely to be feeding, including your own.

If you are doing something with screw piles what are you building? Will that need power?

Definitely NEED to speek to your DNO tell them you are doing some ground works and you need them to clearly identify what cables are where so you can avoid them.
