Hey guys,

I hope this is a simple question.

My batteries have two options for external connection to an inverter, CAN or RS485. The batteries don't come with either cable.

So my question is, which one is better?

Cheers.

Cool, CAN it is.

I did a bit of reading last night and CAN seems to be able to actually be used to communicate properly, rather than just send simple signals.

As always, thanks guys, very much appreciated.

Canbus is really good, it's used a lot in automotive, aerospace and industry in general.
Yeh I've read and watched lots more about it today, and it is a really good system.

Begs the question, why run two systems on one battery.

The supplier also came back to me today and confirmed that CAN is the preferred way to go.

Hopefully the battery can impart lots of useful information to the inverter.

Flexibility, some inverters may only have RS485 etc, cost to include both interfaces is minimal.
