Surely its like riding a bike you never forget. Welcome to the forum Miss Sweden.
Thank you very much!

I did think it would be easy once I got back into a tractor cab, but it's not! Perhaps I should have though of that before I decided to enter that Young Farmers tractor driving competition... :)

App87 that is exactly how my old man taught me to reverse trailers, he drove HGV's for 30 years for Sainsbury's, started on the leyland terrier & Bedford KM (blames the Bedford for his bad back) rigid's in the 70's ending his time on the wagons in 2003/4 doing nights using a scania shunting tractor unit to shift trailers around the depot on/off the bays. He finaly let the licence lapse in 2009.

He said the new tractor units were nice and comfy & a doddle to reverse, but a real drivers wagon was the old seddon with a crash box.

Hi Steps, could not agree more!!! there is only one gearbox, a Fuller Roadranger. All the others [Like ZF and the like] with their syncros and stuff, are for folks that cannot drive!!!!

All of you out there that have not driven a heavy truck, might be thinking "why not have syncro, after all cars are better off for it"

Yes, you are of course right, but adding syncro to a truck box merely makes the gearchange REALLY heavy and obstructive and slow, plus, you would have arms like Schwarzenneger after a week!!!!

It broke down once and we borrowed a need something with n electronic box, simply pick a gear then it auto changed when you clutched, FFS, it was like driving with no trailer the power it had compared to the little Volvo, I think the trailer was only about 9tonne fully loaded!
