Hi folks

Bit of car trouble. I have a 2007 Ford Cmax and TBH had it nearly 3 years and its been a good motor. !.6 diesel quite punchy and economical too. About a month ago started noticing a whine/excessive road noise kind of bearing noise which seemed to be coming from the back. A mechanic at work reckoned rear passenger side bearing after taking it for a spin. I agreed and changed it out. Still got noise. Just changed other side and guess what still a noise..... It recently passed MOT so cant imagine anything major just annoying. £42 a side DIY job not a massive expense. Its done 103K any ideas?

Get Stepps to hang onto the bonnet  upside down with his head by each front wheel in turn , just tywrap one of his ankles to a wing mirror.  :innocent

Might be a CV joint , or front bearing  but I'd think you'd tell whether its front or back .   It is front wheel drive I assume?

Its not a dodgy tyre is it ?

Done the same sort of mileage as my Focus but mine's a MK1 so working my way round it gradually! These potholes are killing me. Did the front wishbones in 2011 and got a ball joint going on the N/S now! At least I can replace JUST that by drilling the rivets out and BOLTING a new ball joint on. Exhaust shield needs sorting too - notorious for hanging down loose on these - aluminium corrodes etc.

Had the same on my old 57 plate astra van, changed rear bearings noise still there. It turned out to be a dodgy tyre that had gone out of shape, put new one on prob was sorted. Might not help but could be something to check.

Mot is only a test of road worthyness. mechanical problems tend to be overlooked if they arent considered to be dangerous. Jack the car up and give the wheels a good spin and see if there is any noise? Also is the noise there all the time? When coasting etc?

well.... changed both hubs but theres STILL noise! all beit a bit less than before. Put the backs on the front and it was 10 times worse. Looks like the back tyres are the culprit! Anyway decided to get rid now.
