Hello airkool, welcome to the forum.

A couple of questions before the other guys & gals put in their input. White goods, is that install, maintain and service type of work? Do you have any formal electrical qualifications, e.g. City&Guilds electrical installation, inspection & testing, or 16th or 17th edition?

Doc H.

yes white goods was repairing them installs and system work on refrigeration, i have no formal qualifications as yet for electrical work just Experience as my father is electrician semi retired so i done few jobs then he checked it after, which cost me enough,(as we dont get on to well) so trying to find which way to go as looked at going to Builder Training Centre, to get paperwork, but need better advice as were to go

First welcome to the forum :)

mmm - not the best times to be starting up! There's another active thread with established businesses with no work :(

Are you able to keep working whilst doing C&G at nightschool? Things may have picked up in a year or two

But good luck!

Greetins a/c, if you are loking at short courses might be worth giving Deltatrainninggroup a look at,I did my 17th,Part P,2392 & 2377 with them its very relaxed, I did more than one course so go a good discount.

Hello airkool.. Welcome:DGuiness Drink

If you are looking at doing domestic electric work and joining one of the Part-P approved schemes...

You can look on their websites to check their entry requiements...

but either way I think you need to work out the best way to get some paper qualifications to back up your experience.

not sure what public liability insurance you need for your current work,

but general level for electrician is

thanx everyone yes looking to do just domestic work and self cert it was thinking just doing part p, but was told cant do that unless already got my 16th edition? so bit confused on that one, i have public liability for 5 million for my whitegoods repairs so just need to swap over

C&G 2330 - Levels 2 & 3 - 2 evenings a week Typically over 2 years, some college are 3 years.

C&G 2382-100 (also known as C&G 2382-10) - 17th Ed - (or 2382-200 (((also known as C&G 2382-20)) if you have passed the 16th ed - 2381 within a certain timeframe).

C&G 2392 or better still the C&G 2391 Inspection and Testing.

C&G 2377 If you want to do Portable Appliance Testing. (PAT)

:)

I have done the 2382 and and on Level 3 of the 2330. I would have done the 2391, but am going to get experience first as it is only a 30% pass rate. I am opting to do the 2392 (I&T) as it is an introduction to the 2391.

Did you know Guys, that the chap that writes the 2391 has changed?

Didn't is used to Mr Brian McScaddan?

Regards

1/ Do you have any other electrically related qualifications or any earlier apprenticeship or training scheme from previous employer?

2/ Do you have a local college doing C&G electrical courses?

If so could be useful to contact the head of their electrical dept to ask advice.

11+ years ago I was made redundant from the telecommunication industry,

started doing 2360 evening course even though the 1st yr was approx 1/3 way through

college were happy to let me join part through cuz of my telecommunications qualification & apprenticeship from when I left school.

Its the Health & safety issues & customer awareness etc.. as well joining the cables up that has to be considered.

I had oodles of knowledge & electrical experience to install, maintain etc on communications systems..

But still needed to get back basics of 230v mains! ;)

design, installation, inspection & testing...

I don't think there is any real quick way to do it properly. :| :)

has anyone heard or used domlec.co. uk electricians self study courses

covers city and guilds 2382 17th edition

city and guilds 2391 and 2392

plus part p

As you have experience in white goods have a look at Building Management Systems. companies,I worked for one about 15 years ago after taking redundancy good number. Air con systems and filter checking. They may have openings for mobile technichians to do the routine monthly tests on different buildings.

Emergency lighting tests and rest room equipment.I know it is tight out there at the moment but you never know.

Do you know any electrical contractors that you have supplied or helped ask if the have any mating type jobs youcould get on all helps the experience.

all the best for 2009
