Think we had a thread on this a while ago want to gauge what we are all are charging for a cu change. Feel free to follow on like this for a typical change of a consumer unit from say an 8way wylex, with no bonding needed and no tail upgrade.

Make: Wylex

Type: Dual RCD

Area: North West

Size of business: 0 employees

Tests Covered: Rings, IR each circuit, R2 at all points, Polarity, zs on all socket outlets and at highest r2 readings on each circuit, rcd, ze, pfc

Typical Cost:

most of my works usually within 30mins/10miles from home so I don't realy take travelling into account. If further afield I do.

My prices are pretty much the same.

Doing a 4 way wylex to an 8 way contactum (possibly 5-6 circuits) on thurs, no tails or bonding req-

PC,

I would say I am probably more expensive than you are in fact at 360 + parts etc.

How much can you get a reasonable CU for, 60-100 then I would sell for 90-150 on top of my lab charge, there may be misc materials as well.

I think the term that is used in the advert is "Reassuringly Expensive"...

Think my prices are about the same - for a straight forward board change without having to upgrade bonding or tails then its between 275 and 300 dependant on what the access is like to the board. I allow a full day to change a board and complete tests and certificate

Ah!

some people just have no idea of what it costs. ive even spoke to a few people who say 'thats expensive' then i end up with the job. others have already done their homework and know roughly what it will cost

and then others who i do loads of work for dont ask for prices unless its a large job, or ill give them a price if its going to be more work than expected

when pricing for a cu change I alway say I allow a day to fit and test the whole house as this is the way it has to be done with certificates and part p compliance being in the post a couple of weeks afterwards. Means it puts doubt in their mind when joe down the pub can do it for 150quid with no test equipment.

Its always important to set yourself from the competition during the quoting process. Even if your quoting against a decent spark who turns up and says 300quid, if I say the same price and explain the process the customer will feel I am doing more for the money and know what I'm talking about.
