hi, Chaps

I need to install a cooker 3.2kw & a hob 6.0kw. I was going to install the hob on 6mm 30a 3036 fuse and install the hob on 2.5mm and a 15a 3036 fuse to feed a 20a d.p switch or 13a fcu.

Someone suggested to use the 6mm cable 30a 3036 fuse to feed both using a unswitched f.c.u for the hob

any advice appreciated

On site guide page 176 suggests a 30A or 32A circuit is adequate for up to 15kW rating....

3.2 + 6.0 = 9.2kW

You can do two if you want..

But no problem runing off one circuit if its more econimical....

;)

And more idiot proof. Imagine homeowner going to consumer unit, switching off the breaker labelled 'cooker' then go and start to disconnect hob.......

Most homeowners.....

well.... at least approx 95%

think that you have to turn the WHOLE house off to work on any electrical circuit!

Had the classic phrase again on Monday...

"You will need to turn all the power off then?"

answer..

NO!..

Just the shower circuit I am working on...

So the kettle can still be plugged in! ;)

If I had a pound for every time a customer said..

"You will need to turn all the power off then?"

I would nearly be on a VET's hourly rate!!!

:innocent

However this has got to be better than them expecting to be able to watch the football on Sky while they cook the supper in the microwave and expect you to rewire the downstairs ring :)

The chap who changed our consumer unit was clearly a cowboy then. ;)

So the OP is installing NEW circuits on a 3036 fuse.

I hope they are surface mounted, or buried more than 50mm in the wall, so you don't need RCD protection on the cable :innocent

Am I right in thinking you can no longer put a new circuit on a BS3871 mcb? But you can on a rewireable 3036....???

And I'm assuming your running this all surface.....

There's quite a few about yes, and others for that matter...

Would you use one for a new circuit providing you'd done the tests and it would be okay?? Or would you tell customer they need a new DB?? !!!!

Yep ! As far as I know as long as you achieve Disc.Times and add an RCD somewhere I think you could still go with a 3036 board. Highly unlikely though.

Customer a couple of years back told the builder he wanted a BS3036 board fitting as thats what we have on the Railways . No intention of fitting one as it wanted to be a split load anyway but made the enquiry at the wholesalers.... no...could'nt source one anywhere.

Shed , do you mean the push button breakers or a 3036 fuse? I don't like all this adding on little splitter boards all over the place as the installation grows, it was the old way , keeping the costs down , let someone else worry about changing the board just get me shower /cooker/ garage supply done and paid for.

Now the regs have changed so much that its down to us to do the upgrading .

Not even when you had that massive clear out of yours last week!!!!!
:^O One thing that wasn't there, even in all my old carp , was a 3036 board, although theres still a box of ancient fuse carriers, we once supplied some to a local hospital (Bill No7s) I think. It was a board that couldn't be switched off and had to remain until the refurbing programme caught up with it .

Coil of 25mm Kopex is going next , can't see me ever using that up the way work is these days.

3 Pairs of wooden steps may as well go too ,apparently they are unsafe, you'd think I,d have noticed that over the last 20 years would'nt you, still use one 8 tread pair on the van .

3036... Fuse wire isn't it??

3871 push button mcbs...or we're the Wylex Or am I muddled..... I'm lost now.....

My wholesaler rings ME for old mcbs as I have around 300 of the bloody things in my shed!!!!'I just can't throw them!

You can't throw the wooden steps out, Noah used then to build the ark dint he.....!!!!
