Hi people, can any one tell me

what the regs are regarding spurring

off a cooker switch

( I have attempted to find it)

I need to add a kitchen socket in a plasterboard

Kitchen & I am running out of options unless I employ

a plasterer afterwards. As the cooker circuit is a radial

would a FCU before the added socket meet

the requirements?

what about changing the cooker switch for one with a socket included on it?

fcu would be ok

32 amp mcb ???? 4 or 6mm ????

why not spur in 4mm

annotate cert as required and label the cu correctly job done

OSG 8.4 pg 160ish

i would only do this if the socket was close by but thats me....

Will be about 10 ft to where I need the spur.

I thought appliances drawing over 2kw should be on their own circuit? not doubting you theory by the way. I like your idea

How can any sensible answers be given without any knowledge of the power rating of the cooking appliance?

AND..

What appliances are you expecting to have off this additional socket?

Some low power ovens can be wired to a ring circuit...

But as a general rule a cooker circuit supplies cooking appliances with possibly 1 socket outlet built into the control switch!

OSG 8.4 pg 160ish does not say anything about spurring additional sockets off a cooker point...

AFAIK there is NO reg specifically saying this is good practice.

Personally I would ONLY do it if the cooking appliance is one that could safely be connected to a ring circuit!

Otherwise I would look at alternatives to supplying my socket.

Not quite...

But heading in the right direction of thought! :Salute

many kettles, washing machines, toasters etc... are 2.2kw, -> 2.8kw.

there is no reg to say you cant,,, but best practise you wouldnt

the op is in a pickle ........

how many times have you seen a gas hob via a socket from the cooker circuit ????

is that in correct

I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this thread & I will now nail it so it doesn't go on forever & a day. I will check out the load from the cooker & make the changes accordingly. After all it is in a special location & I do have to put my monocle on it. If it can't be done then so be it.
