it has stopped between 9pm and 8am the last two nights.

could this be some sort of interference? do you have anything on i timer that turns off during 9pm and 8am?

it might be worth plugging the pc into a surge protector, i think they also reduce emi & rfi noise.

just stabbing in the dark at the mo but it all helps (both sensitive equipment is all that got me thinking).

Could be due to a faulty joint in the supply cable or a nearby factory??

so you would rather try to hide the problem with a UPS rather than get the problem fixed?

I meant in the reasons for the buzzing, not that a UPS is the cure...

well thats OK then! hate to think were now working at ways of hiding faults rather than correct them! (thats what the DIY forums are for!)
