umm? So do we think this is a strategic development? A sudden reduction in trades persons as the grandfathers decide they’re too old to start training for qualifications for the sake of another few years in the game, and an opportunity too promote either a) apprenticeships, b) a market to target entrants with suitable qualifications/points to enter our country after Brexit?

???

Most unlike  me but, I had a slight  disagreement with the examiner when I did my CSCS card about which were the correct answers

i simply asked as to whether they wanted the answer they were expecting as was written on their script OR the proper answer which was more correct

eg

Q......you find a damaged flex on a powertool, do you

A) repair it yourself

B) phone the coastguard

C) drink a cup of tea with 6 sugars in it

D) report it to,your supevisor

I said it was A) as I am a spark and it's my fricking job.....he could not compute that

same with an injury on site......at the time I was a fully certed Offshore emergency Dive medic, so I would treat it myself including intubation and getting a line in.if required ( not just for 💩 S and giggles )....could not compute

told him it was a joke

answered the way he wanted

never did another

he got me on one of my few 'less tolerant' days

In fairness as the CSCS card is not intended for the electrotechnical industry, which should instead seek the ECS card (which is affiliated to the CSCS) I would have to agree that their answer is the correct one.

Pretty sure one of the answers to what to do if you have rats on site was "Tomorrow, bring a large cat to site".

I used to be exempt from having to get a CSCS card with a bona fide letter from them.

Do,you know what?....that's got me thinking it may have been an ECS one. It may have been a JIB thing?

it was that long ago,I cannot remember....but I know it was done on a motorway services on the M6  ( Poplar 2000? ) near Thelwall Viaduct

i will have the Cert somewhere . I shall have a root about for it

I'm intolerant of idiots by nature, lol. imagine it, working on site and you damage the cable on your drill, so, you pop back to the leccy shop and tell the chargehand is his response going to be, A, give it here, I'll fix it while you have a brew, or B, well fix it yourself, you're a spark aren't you.

Working on some of the big sites could be a real pain for damaged leads on tools, I remember being on one and almost every dinnertime somebody would wander into the leccy shop with something they'd mangled, "ere sparks, sort this will you", they'd ask, dropping the unfortunate tool on the bench.

I remember one guy, he'd cut the cable that many times it was only about a metre long, "can you make it a bit longer this time, mate" he asked as he wandered off for his dinner, so I did. I ended up chopping the socket off a 110v lead and attaching the lead to the machine, well he wanted it a longer lead, though I'm not sure 10 mtrs was what he had in mind. lol

I once got a right bollocking for calling the fire brigade to a fire at a premises next door to where I was working! I was doing a spot of dog work at the time and arrived at a site to eject some trespassers who were causing damage. I saw them off and decided to sit in the van for a bit to make sure they didn't come back, they didn't, instead they went and set fire to the building next door!

I rang the fire service, then called in to our office to tell them I had to wait for the police to turn up, they went mad! Apparently, it wasn't up to me to ring fire, I should have rung the office and let them do it, but since it wasn't a building we were looking after I should have just ignored it!.
