Well in order of preference for me(Cant get away from windows for some of the programming software which wont run under VMWare)

On a serious note apart some some serious programming software for work there is nothing i cant do on a mac at home that i have to do under Windoze
This is why I stuck with windoze, one os, as I need it for prgramming sw also, and there is no chance of getting this stuff ported or re-written unless I reverse engineer & re-write it myself.

Even the authours could not port it to certain versions of windoze!

Though between them & us we did get it working with the App Compat Toolkit & VMWare.

I/We did get some old stuff to work with USB:serial adaptots, but it does depend on the usb hardware.

IF they have a full blown serial implementation with power & signal then you may get away with it.

We used stuff from DOS (circa 1990) right through to native Win 2k apps.

However even though we used PPC processors for some of our hardware all of our software was windoze.

We did get some old stuff running in vmware with usb:serial too, but as I say only with certain adaptors.

Big problem in a big corporate environment where the IT Dept have no idea about the kit you are selling and the problems they cause with their "blanket policies"!

the main problem I see is that people will NOT allow the software to be released.

I bet in 6 months if the stuff sidewinder needs was released as freeware then it would be available on most platforms.

its all down to M$ keeping it as a moneyspinner.

Nah mate this was written by the harware maker (my ex-employer) it would never be released as that would mean releasing hardware info and that is not going to happen!

There is not the demand for it, it is used mainly in large blue chip organisations which are heavily pc biased anyway.

BTW is not M$ driven/controlled, but it is manuf/writer driven/controlled!

OH,

well in that type of environment its always going to be a closely guarded trade secret type of thingie.

just gets my goat as to why some HW manufacturers wont allow their drivers to be available,

epson printers comes to mind, dont they realise they have lost a sale because of this.?

I now have 2 HP printers, excellent they are. (even if I dont know how to scan anything on them.! ) :Blushing
