Just watched the whole series  ...again!!  ... what a gem ....   Three series about two blokes detecting  where nothing much happens ....  then you realise that actually a lot happens .

Depends of course on your sense of humour ..............brash  American style comedy with snappy New Yoike accents, complete with canned laughter  it is NOT  .

Its  clever , low key humour with a master class in acting from Toby Jones  as Lance  with other excellent characters  like  his mate Andy,     rival detectorists   Simon & Garfunkel .

Start watching and feel your pulse   slowing down  as each episode opens with  two guys in the English countryside  accompanied by birdsong  , watched by the magpies.   Need to watch on your own with no distractions .

Any one else been captivated by this gem  I wonder.  ?

how do we get this amazing series then, only have a basic sky no box sets etc... will have a look for it

Just reminded me, we have a garret detector, hardly been used and a very large garden with some history to it.... might be worth having a go.... must remember NOT to wear steel toe caps ths time..... holes in the turf everywhere.

BBC are having to change lots of their schedules AND fill all the gaps vacated by numerous sports so repeats are on the cards for lots of programs ........... as are other broadcasters.

they are still getting ££££s from us from licence fee and not paying staff as much, so they should be able to put some decent stuff on.

They postponed making 600 journalists redundant recently - which probably explains why the BBC is churning out so many naff articles ATM

I don't think its on any channels at the moment ,  I have the box set .   Just looked  on Amazon  £25 .   (  2 Packs of  Benson & Hedges)   Can't be bad .

Best watched late a night with no distractions .

The magpies are very important .

A nice touch in one episode where they find a hawking whistle  , (it brings your tame hunting hawk back )   The trees shrink & diminish , the colour morphs into grainy B&W  and we see the whistle owner ,  an Anglo-Saxon girl  with the hawk ,   her family further back dig a hole to hide their valuables in .     As they walk off it morphs back into colour and our two detectorists  are   ...........  Ahhh!   spoiler alert  !!!

series 3 episode 3 for goodness sake.... Mrs wont let me watch any without her! whats going on. Getting a bit of end of series anxiety now - what next?

Knew you would .      Later episode has Andy yearning for his own shed .

Has he found the "Jim'll Fix it Badge" yet ? :C
yes and the blankety blank cheque book - no pen... aparrently worthless as its the Les dawson one

They don't hold a candle to it do they .      I'm glad you  appreciated it  .   It was written & directed by  the tall thin guy who acted Andy .   As you say , classics are few & far between ,  Faulty Towers is one , where they get   the characters , actors & the writing just right .

Everyone's idea of comedy is different of course ,   I remember it being discussed on a job some years ago  ,  never forgot it ....a plumber comes out with  ..."   I can't stand that Captain Mainwaring   ...bloody pompous self important  bloke "   :C     I'm thinking ...YES!  thats exactly  right you *****  ,  its called nailing the part .
