What do you think of this earth rod install chaps?

It has no notice on it so contravenes the regs straight away. But what about the lack of a box or suitable enclosure? Is it okay left out in the open like that? The cable to it is 16mm. It was installed November 2009. And lets just say the tenant was less than impressed with the firm that did the electrical works (new CU and other stuff).

I don't know at this stage if those bare wires form part of the installation or not. The g/y goes to the CU and continues on from there back to the main isolator at the incomer (3ph in the lobby of a farm house).

looks perfectly fine the label may have fallen off/eaten

bite bite

the connection needs (mechanical, corrosion cant remeber which or both) protection, i will try to find a reg number.

:^O

apologies forumites/op. pc likes to bite from time to time :run

yes what a mess looks like it was installed 1909

542.1.6(iii) ?

hmmmm fail to see how a box offers protection against corrosion

agree it would offer mechanical but don't see that mentioned as a req

weirdly i'd like to see it wet but mechanically protected which is opposite to the reg :_|

u r obviously a bit quicker with the book than me lostit

its not going to completely protect from corrosion but it will sheild it from the weather. Ive never seen a 'actual earth rod' in a box suffer from any real corrosion. A fence post or what ever else has been used i have seen corroded.

I think both regs apply.

:x :Salute agree wozz

regs book!!!! that was out of my head ROTFWL

copper doesn't corrode anyway ;)

Corrode - maybe not.

Oxidise - most certainly.

PC - it isn`t ideal; and, as you pointed out, there isn`t a label. I can`t remember if 16mm has to be protected (regs on site :( ), and that looks like re-use of the pre-existing earth rod - what sort of reading did you get?
