I have an e7 CU which was originally put in for night storage heaters and an immersion when the house was built back in the '60's.

a new gas supply has now done away with the need for it. My question is.... Is there anything stopping me connecting other devices to it, that require overnight cheap electricity?

If it still works, I have seen people heat their water cylinder overnight, or do the washing and drying overnight. You will of course have to enquire when it actually activates they have different time settings according to your supplier.

You have to be aware that Dullspark says his location is Scotland, but is more likely Devises, and I never take any comment serious if the op can not be open and honest in his/her posts.

Problem with only using a bit of electric at night is you will pay more for the daytime electric you use. You really have to weigh up is it worth staying on E7

If its still active you will be paying slightly more for your daytime electric so it would pay to mak euse of it .

Put a timer on your washing M/c  is an option and heating a tank of hot water .    Otherwise , if now have gas fired C/H  may pay to dump that tariff.

Is that the McDevises  which IS in Scotland?

We do all washing/dishwasher/tumble drying at night on the Eco 7.

With careful use we can use nearly 70% of our electricity on the cheap rate. 6p at night think it's nearly 18p per unit in the day.

:D

Yes, Good point;  E7 was designed for anyone with no

access to mains gas. Just a shame that many of the old

night storage heaters were not a little more user friendly.
