Hope someone can enlighten me, have just been offered some sitework & was told i needed ECS/JIB card, no prob, phoned up and booked up fastrack exam. When i asked what would go on the card they told me electrical labourer. Even tho i've got 17th edition, 2393 & 2392. When i asked why they told me cos i'm not 2330/am2. Know i'm only part p but still seems bit unfair.

Another example of blackmailing the working man . So you can't work on a site without a JIB skills card which they refuse to renew until you have done the Safety scam .

Then you can't work on domestic jobs unless you are registered with a Part P providor .

the ecs part is health and safety, which you learn during your nvq3, i realize its not exactly hard but none of your qualifications include any training on health and safety so i cant see how you can be given a jib/ecs card at all.

As you say this is a downside of your training.

i dont know any of your past/experience, but 17ed/2392/2393 doesnt automatically make you an electrician. you may have 20 years experience, or you may have just those qualifications. if its the first, then your probably in the same situation as many others: JIB wont accept you as an electrician because you dont have the quals to prove it (or none they will accept in the case of some older people).

if its the latter, then TBH, at least someone is sticking up for the trade and refusing to call 5 week wonders 'electricians'. after all, from a scam provider point, you can do a 5 week course and be an electrician

well i dont suppose those apprentices will get their portfolio signed by the company??

Take it by your comments Andy you dont like us part p people. We might not have done the 3yrs college etc. but some of us have been doing this for quite a few years (getting work checked and signed off by someone qualified ie 2391 etc.) so we aint all 5 week wonders, yeah sure theres gonna be sum but there are also some supposedly fully qualified sparks out there that should be on rogue traders.

as long as your competent and doing the job properly & safely, then carry on. its those who have done a 5 week course and think they can do anyhting, dont know their limits, and leave things dangerous because they dont know what they should be doing thats the problem

five weeks is a long one some of them are five days all in one week!

Surely you can't become an electrician in 5 weeks ? I keep seeing reference to this . If you can , thats about 5 years and 47 weeks less than my apprenticship.
you cant. but you can learn how to wire a plug, the basics of a ring main, and get a cert to say you know what your doing.

ESCS card with JIB on it as well, I did a one day course with online exam at the end with a load of simple common sense safety questions. We were all given a book to read through before we even arrived so it was very easy.

Why it cannot be as simple as this for evrybody I donnot know.

Mine has expired now, so theres another scam to make make me pay to go back and answer the same stupid questios again.

Not having a go , Nutsy, it just seems strange to old pharts like me , then as I remember Bob Dylan saying " The Times they are' a Changing" No offence M8 .
no offence taken mate, am just to old (48) to go thro the 2330 route,

people were asking why i had to get someone to sign off my work so decided to do part p and be able to sign of my own.

well I suppose it depends if your grandfather is the MD or not.

then you can always get the MDs signature even if you cant get the QS signature.!
