Sorry if it seems a basic question but I am currently transferring old VHS tapes on to my PC using Cyberlink Power director (Lidl 19.99) The thing is that a 20 min recording uses something like 1.6GB of space which seems a lot. I am just saving the whole recordings with a view to chopping out some bits and making DVD sized recordings. The recordings are old ones of the kids and from our time living in NZ etc so really important to me to preserve before the VHS becomes unusable. Already lost some VHS in damp garage etc.

So advice on what to use to tidy up recordings and make them smaller would be great. I am using windows 7 and am not that clever with PCs.

either that or get yourself another HDD and boot Linux/Ubuntu on it for the sole purpose of editing your video clips,

perhaps not just as clean or simple as a Mac, but deffo miles easier than windows and a much better finished product for the average person that doesnt want to spend
