When the cover is off, you can see its definitly not 'doctored'.

The gap on the LH side is less than 1 full width of a Blank so perhaps the space is the half blank that you mention. I was assuming it would need a trimmed width Blank to fill that gap and that there should be no gabs left at all ?

Thank you I stand corrected. There is only one spare way so it should only need a single blank module, the one in place hasn't slipped across?

Quite right.

It always makes me chuckle when sparks say non fire rated lights must be a C2 in a detached home - yet the enormous "hole" being the stairs presents a far bigger danger....

Those MCB's don't look tight enough together if they where a full blank may fit, alternatively fitting an appropriate second RCD may be a good idea in place of the blanks.

Does anybody know which blanks fit well for thicker plastic CU’s ?

Short answer NO..

But I do have an odds-n-sods box with a various selection of blanks that I have acquired from various makes of CU over the years..
BUT.. those cheap & crappy bits of clicky plastic don't get used much, as in my opinion they are easily lost if they fall out while removing the cover..

For many years now my preferred option has been to try and use the dummy MCB type blanks..
e.g.
WYLEX BRITISH GENERAL CEF (various) MK HAGER
etc.. etc..

Preferably the correct make for the CU..
BUT.. at the end of the day as long as it fits and bungs the holes up to stop pokey fingers getting in...
then a different manufactures bit of plastic is not my major concern...

As I do not consider it a more serious danger than leaving an MCB width hole in the front of a CU!!
