My first house had one, sat above the picture rail over the fireplace. Supplied via twisted bell wire tacked to the picture rail. Then went across the alcove  to the stair cupboard in mid air WITH a connector block and straight onto one of the fuses!

Since quartz clocks come in there doesn't seem much point in mains ones any more.

If they're not popular nowadays maybe try local classifieds or gumtree and get a second had one that's well made rather than a new one that will be of dubious quality from the far East.

My Gran's one was VERY old and kept perfect time. She lived on her own and it saved her climbing up to change the battery.

That's the whole point, they do keep pretty well perfect time, because the frequency of the grid has to be maintained for that purpose.

Can you still buy the dedicated clock sockets they used to plug into?

Used mainly for frame mounted picture lights these days.

Not cheap these days though.
