Hello Everyone,

Apologies If I am raising this question in the wrong area of this forum.

I hired a electrician for 3 phase installation in December and still struggling to get the paperwork.

I had 415v coming into the main switch but never had the 3 Phase plugs. The safety certificate was done prior to this installation by the landlord and now I am worried about that certificates validity due to this new installation.

I kept calling the Electrician and never pick up the phone and If I see him somewhere he says, I will surely do it tonight or today etc.. but its going on for almost 3 months. Onetime he came around and taken some reading and that was it.

What I have on him,

Invoice: emailed copy.

Bank transfer of the payment.

His emails stating he will do it.

Any help or suggestion on how to proceed will be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum, I have moved this to the Q&A area. Excluding very minor work or like-for-like repairs, all other work should have an appropriate electrical certificate issued. Is your electrician a member of any of the trades bodies, NICEIC, ECA, NAPIT etc. if so you may be able to try their complaints procedures against your electrician.

Doc H.

Thank you Doc H.

I asked if he's qualified to do the paperwork prior to the work begins. His answer was "of course I am." but now I am beginning to think he was lying about that.

How can I force him to do this? my insurer asked If I have an up to date certificated when I renew the policy last month.

Theres no reason why he can't do a completion cert , as its 3 ph I guess its an industrial job so he doesn't need to be a member of anything TBH  , just "Competent"

He just can't be arsed by the sound of it ....which doesn't help you .  Try telling him you cannot get insurance without them .

Otherwise you may have to pay someone else to check the work and certify.

Sounds like he never intended to do it properly?

After you pushed him, he "came and took some readings" presumably so he could fill in a certificate. Well they should have been done at the time of installing the socket?

Next time make it a condition of the contract that proper certification is provided and don't pay until it is.

threaten legal proceedings, or to get another electrician in and chartge him for the cost. He may just be busy, but threat of action should foucs his mind

As Binky says the bloke may just be busy so offer to get some body else in to test inspect the work........bet he come running then.
