almost guaranteed to be a scam

IIRC, HMRC dont send stuff like this by email

probably best contacting HMRC directly about it, and not via any links in the email

also the wording isnt very good - i.e an attempt at english from someone who speaks another language (nigerian probably - or scouse)

Dodgy..

for one thing i am sure the Inland Revenue do not send external emails they have a 'closed system'

everything is done by letter with them

if you are entitled to a refund you will get it straight into your bank because on your return they ask you how you would like to receive it bacs on cheque

A lot of people at my work including myself got tax refunds recently, They all came via Royal Mail.

I paid no tax for the first 3 months when I started working for a contractor after the redundancy at the smelter. I thought it was fantastic! The lady in the pay office assured me it was right. Just had a letter from HMRC saying I have underpaid by

Logon to their site using your gateway id and see if its listed as tax owing to you.

100% SCAM !!!

DO NOT CLICK ON THE BUTTON !!!!

I get these and all other types of them ALL the frigging time, mate.

I agree I have had the same, there is a way of telling if the website is real or not, shown with some types of antivirus programs I think, our resident guru may enlighten us on that. Oh mighty canoe paddler.

I had this email also, and if you google hmrc email, it takes you to a page on the hmrc website that has a list of all the scam email addresses

Also, don't forget that these scammers may well use, what look to be a genuine address, and even genuine e-mail addresses to make it look convincing.

But once you have clicked on that button - look out!

Just checked my e-mails and suprise suprise - there is one on there from HSBC Internet Banking - Important Security Notice! - The muppets! ([email protected])

I did start a thread or poll on this subject some time ago to start a forum dedicated to Scams etc.

Good idea that admin, we could have a title like "Latest Known Scams", and could include email or telephone scams.

Any chance we can permo link this? perhaps in a new sticky thread for scams admin.?? asked of course in the most polite manner.
