That reminds of one I went to, wall lights not working , customer admits to taking them down to decorate,now they don't work. All wiring dead to switch and lights as he had shorted one out, but all MCBs on .

After much head scratching and cups of tea , customer comes out with " When the guy wired them up I remember he had the floorboards up, just there" Carpet back, lift trapped board, find spur unit , replace 3 amp fuse , lights on.

Might be coincidental but I have recently had 2 ring ccts with end to end continuity open cct so in effect creating 2 radials. On both occassions it has been in the kitchen where the sockets have been spurred off and conductors have not been terminated properly in the back of the socket.

Robin Spark, I see you are from Stourbridge, I once worked for a Stourbridge contractor , F J Southall in Lower High St, used to do a lot at Round Oak Steel Works. They packed up contracting and now make and supply labels to the trade, now known as Electro-Graph. Still in Lower High St. opposite the Woolpack.
