Pickledonion , Is your single core 1L1.5 used in a PME wiring system , we used to call it concentric wiring , where the pyro sheath acts as N & E . Home Office permission used to be required . Weird system to work on , it was used to save money on the installation.

I must say, i was puzzled at having such small single core pyro, however it was late and time for bed...lol!! Normally there only single over i think 16mm.... But i guess what your saying would now make sense of it ..... albeit a false economy to my mindset..lol!!!

No its part of an old fire alarm system, sheath is earth and core is the signal. system only accepts one shot heat alarms and break glasses, that's why its coming out. New smoke and heat detectors going in.

I'll take a pic and post it if I can figure out how.

pickleye,

Well there you go, ...I thought i knew of the majority of the the different fire alarm systems. But i have to admit, i've never seen or heard of such a fire alarm, or such a wiring system either!! How old is this installation by the way?? ...Must be way older than me!!! ...lol!!!

Sorry for the delay in posting, here is the picture I promised.

I'm told system is wired from panel in single core through all heats and break glasses then back to the panel. Once a fire is detected a link in the device melts and off goes the alarm. Needs to be replaced as cannot be reset. Spares no longer available.

Inset pic shows the small single core micc.

Please bear in mind I'm an apprentice if I've got the system wrong. Tried to get as much info as I could, but its like pulling teeth sometimes.

Larnacaman, the label on the device says tested 1979, so thirty plus years old, not as old as me!! :(
