well the manual didnt say they are not suitable for use in the pond?probably werent installed properly
I think you have to use them blind grommets when installing in a pond, you know, to get a good seal and that

Last time I used CEF was in an emergency when I needed some 20mm galv couplers. Quality and thickness of metal was impressive tbh...........78p each wasn't!

Where were these fitted? If there are salts leaching out of wet wall like a cellar this is possible even on galv, don’t forget galv/zinc is sacrificial and can be eroded if the environment is there for it to do so. That’s why the anodes on a boat hull disappear before the steel hull

Intresting quetion comes to mind does anyone use the earth on a modern knock out box these days?
I personally don't these day's but when I see this corrosion I can see some merit in doing so!

As Andy said YOU don't need one if one lug is fixed, on some of the older boxes both lugs were floaters so you had to, its a waste of copper now and time
TBH I think most grade of KO box would go the same way in those conditions .
Denmans do special range of KO box ( designed to annoy sparks) .... the adustable lug drops out so you always need spare boxes to rob, and a lot of the threads have to be tapped out on 2nd fix .
Oh and because on new work I usually loop at the switches so use 25mm X 1 gang boxes can lead to quite a few earths and the terminal has a tiny hole compared to other makes.
