On an answer previously im just saying it was mentioned that the armour as an earth wouldnt be big enough for a 4mm 2 core thats if any equipotential parts in the garage.Im thinking why not surely the armour is equal to a 4mm core that would of been there if the armoured i was using was a 3 core

RIght andy i test houses with no garage supplys what so ever all i have to know is whats a main protective bond a supplementary bond and thats it a dont know is my answer an earth equipotential bond ?or can it be worded main equipotential bond 10mm ?

garage or no garage is irrelevant. the exact same rules & regs apply. you should be fully aware of the basics like earthing sizes. they are not hard

I dont know andy i said to my mate id give him the 2 core 4mm armoured he is doing the job not me to be honest i dont know clearly im missing something here

clearly missing quite a bit. i can understand not knowing every reg and having to look up the odd thing, but not knowing earthing sizes...thats about as basic as knowing brown is live and blue is neutral...

Correct me if i'm wrong but Main equipotential bonding is probably what you are calling 'main protective bond' i.e. to Gas/Water/Metal structure etc size usually 10mm in domestic

Andy your saying look at 544.1 to me thats main protective bond 10mm so run a separate 10mm earth with a 4 mm 2 core armoured. Just doesnt seem right

I Was going to use the armour as an earth for a 2 core 4mm on a 16 amp breaker off the house board glanded off in to a garage socket next to it fused spur for the lights at the moment.but at a later date change put a garage board in the garage when i get hold of one people on the forum have been saying on the forum have been saying armour is not big enough ifany extraneous parts well cant i just put a separate 4mm. Tie wrapped on the armoured the only metal part is a 5 foot light fitting

I Was going........................t light fitting

I've liked that post purely for the sheer and utterly incomprehensibility of it! :slap

Excellent work sir.  I hope your installations are a bit more transparent!

THere is no gas pipe in the garage or water pipes so no need for a 10 mm earth a get you the armour is fine as an earth all thats in there is socket and switched spur for lights got there finnally yes the 4mm is fine for the supply but on the other hand if there is gas meters water stop taps yes its no good having a 4mm earth to the board or an armour then having a ten mm out to meters and stop taps.then a seperate earth would be required with the armour at least 10mm may b 16mm
