Hi,

I had a electrician come round to give an estime for putting in an external power and lighting to a shed, an extra light and power and lighting to a patio area and wanted some advice:

1. the new external connections with be on there own fuse, does the new connection need to be a ring?

2. I am going to use heavy duty plasic pipe to lay some cable under the ground and to run along the wall is this suitable or does it have to be metal?

3. Do I need a fuse/box in the shed and on the patio area or can the wires go stright to the plugs and light?

Hello joolz.

1. No. radial to the out building, lights on a radial, sockets can be on a radial or ring depending on what the demand will be.

2.just use SWA

3. personaly i put a garage unit in out buildings (small 2way cu)

4. this is depending on distance to outbuilding, where the cu is in the house, do you have an upto date cu with rcd? do you have bondings? where in the house is the cu? IE.....other side ot outbuilding. lots of things to take into consideration with pricing, including your post code.

Thanks for the update, with the Steal Wire Armored do you mean the cable and if so does this mean no trunking and attach to wall with P-Clips?

Yes mate, just clip it to the wall or dig it in. you do need to use a gland each end though! but your guy will do that for you

Whats the distance from the consumer unit in the house up the garden to the shed?

SWA from house to the shed, small cu in shed, TT with rod, 16amp rcbo radial for shed sockets + fused spur for shed light, 6amp rcbo for garden lights.

AS for the cost it depends on the distance & what materials he has quoted for if property has main bonding in place so

Actually it probably would be an idea to get a couple of other quotes that way the true cost could be compared.
