Not sure if anyone has aany ideas.

An elderly friend of mine has one of these. Wasn't cheap either. It has a fault and he isnt getting any help from the manufacturer.

Its basically an inset electric log effect fire.

When switched on at the main switch on the front, the log effect illuminates for about half a second then goes off. I thought it might be the switch and replaced it but new one made no difference. The owner is convinced the problem is the remote control but cant get one off the manufacturer and no one seems to sell them.

Anyone got any ideas?

Is there an internal battery pack within the fire to power the receiver unit and open gas valve until thermocouple takes over?

There is in mine...it lasts about 6 months...BUT mine is not a Gazco unit

Ah....now i have re read the OP what I have put is totally irrelevant, sorry

Tried taking the batteries out of the remote? A stuck button might be the cause.

Is there not a set of buttons on the unit itself? If so then the remote should be an easy one to rule out. Could well be a duff controller in the fire itself. Needs more testing.
