Hello to everyone.

I have recently completed a City and Guilds 3 year course in eletrical installation.

I was a postman and took a redudancy settlement ( maybe not a wise move in todays climate) and was wondering if anyone had any tips on getting started as an electrician.

Self employed or employed by others I don't mind which.

Can anyone recommend some good websites for job searching or advertisement?

Thanks.

You really need an apprenticeship, which may not be practical in your circumstances.

Doing an "electrical" course might tell you all you need to know about wiring regs etc, but probably teaches you nothing about the practicalities of working in a real situation, like how to take floorboards up, understanding how houses are built and how to run cables (and how NOT to run cables) while causing the minimum of disturbance to the building.

I would suggest finding employment, rather than self employment, probably starting as an electricians mate, until you build up enough understanding of the practicalities and feel confident to start on your own.
