most newer model mercs do have the light sensors on them, it will adjust the lights appropriately according to the weather and the natural lighting!
Sounds about right just didn't want to take it to the garage I case it wasn't broken and get charged

fog lights and low level lights

sod off with that

low level lights behind me,,,,,,,,and too close ???? fog lights on ,,,,,,and they stay on

i love driving me astra, 59 plate and its my baby! dont like the new shape one, with the push button handbrake, and the autolights and the rain sensing window wipers, to me yeh move ahead with technology but keep it to a minimum, it will end up that the cars drive themselves before long

, and ruin driving experiences!

These automatic lights are the reason i dont use the Bentley for work anymore. I drive the van in now and let the gardener use the car

. It appears the older cars with the retro fitted HID are the troublesome ones, especially Our Polish friends who dont realise left hand drive vehicles headlamps are pointing into the paths of oncoming vehicles in this country :(

A few years back, i drove to Birmingham with no lights on, that was until the old bill pulled me over in Bearwood. I honestly didnt realise what I had done until the policeman got out of his car and then it suddenly dawned on me what I had forgot to do!

TBH though the main road into Brum is that well lit I could see perfectly at all times but I suppose no that good for other cars seeing mine, oops!

Now i drive one of them new fangled vehicles with automatic lights, wipers etc so no excuse, however the lights are supposed to angle themselves according to driving conditions etc

I find this in my mx5 because its low down, and then I find that the more I notice the head lights the more I look at them and the more I'm blinded.

In the van I'm higher up, don't notice it hardly and then I'm the one with the bright lights set too high, so its payback time.

I fail to understand how anyone can drive without lights in the dark. Surely you must realise something is wrong when you can't see the speedo or anything on the dash! Should be able to revoke driving licenses for idiots who do this - the same as these numpties that drive around with their wing mirrors tucked in to the car body whilst driving. I think I should be allowed a SAM missile launcher on my vehicles and when I see any perpetrators I can simply blow these sad acts clean off the road. Might put myself forward as the national driving Zsar.

Cirrus, i think part of the problem is some cars have the speedo lit at all times, regardless of the side / headlights being on or off.

also, all new cars must have DRL's (daytime running lights). so they may have some light to the front, but nothing to the back

it happens though even more after a hard day or long drive when it was light when you started

Adjustable headlights..........D`you know, the ONLY time I ever take em off "lowest" setting????

Sitting in a queue of traffic at night, with glaring red brake lights making the inside of the cab look like a super-duper sunset (20 feet from the sun!).

Maybe I`m stupid, or olde-fashioned or summat - but brake lights are to tell people you ARE stopping. You don`t need to be pressing the brake when you`ve stopped.

So I turn `em up - if they want to have bright light invading MY space, I`ll return the favour.

Probably means I`m one of the only sad gits who turns his lights down to sidelights when sat in a queue (behind a car without brake lights on), or at the traffic lights themselves. Why blind everybody, when there`s no need?

Missus has the cleaner (or maid, if its the cleaner`s day off) drive her to the shops in the Jaguar - I give the van to the labourer, and take the Dodge ram 3000 to work - I find it more practical, TBH

I'm well aware that flashing headlights has no legal meaning , but it is common practice.
Deke it's worse than that. Flashing your lights, according to the highway code, is alerting another vehicle to your presence.

110Flashing headlights. Only flash your headlights to let other road users know that you are there. Do not flash your headlights to convey any other message or intimidate other road users.

111

Never assume that flashing headlights is a signal inviting you to proceed. Use your own judgement and proceed carefully
Signals (103-112) : Directgov - Travel and transport

People really shouldn't 'flash' people out.

Of course they are mate - They're a warning instrument, just like your horn. :)

KME: I know what you mean mate. Also, when I do that old fashioned thing "Giving way to other vehicles) whether larger or simply "Coming uphill", I always dip my lights to sidelights as not to blibd/dazzle them. :)

Mr Ali is a paramedic and has lots of lovely exciting vehicles to play with. One of the Hazardous Area Response Team trucks he drives has a loud hailer on the roof that can be used by the driver to commnunicate with the public in the event of a major incident. The switch has a cover over it to keep sticky fingers off, but apparently my other half often needs to be restrained while he is driving so that he doesn't use it to swear at the other idiots on the road (and then get the sack).

I notice that hardly anyone puts the handbrake on in traffic , just sit with foot on brake pedal for minutes on end , wierd !!.

As an afterthought , in the early 60s Birmingham pioneered the nationwide "Dipped Headlight " campaign , signs everywhere.

Believe it or not most people drove on sidelights. Also if you parked on the road ,at night, you had to leave the lights on , until the law was dropped . On some cars, if you could have just the front /rear on the offside by leaving the indicator in that direction.

Another long gone device was the "Parking Light" which hooked on the side window , just a 5w lamp with white /red lens.

Police delighted in slapping a ticket on for "No Lights on a Public Road." Even in the middle of a row of 30 cars all parked up , every one had to have its lights on.
