Hello my name is Danielle I am 21yrs old and live in Hull, England. I have just started a level 2 electrical domestic installer course hopefully leading to level 3. I am currently seeking someone to take me on as an apprentice or mate so I can get as much practical experience as possible and so I can earn money while I am working. I am meeting the full cost of the course myself however I'm unsure of how to approach employers and would appreciate and tips or advice anyone might have, thankyou x

Hello Danielle, and welcome to the forum.

Only advice I can give is to put pen to paper to all your local contractors.

Offer a couple of weeks free help so they can see your work ethic and hopefully one will take you on.

Good luck.

Welcome to the forum Danielle88, often its who you know rather than what you know. As Bez suggested you will need to do lots of letter writing, door knocking and telephoning. Look through all your local directories for electrical companies, try the NICEIC, NAPIT, ELECSA etc websites for contractor lists, they normally have a find a contractor with postcode search facilities. Good luck with your search and studies.

Welcome to the forum Danielle88,

It's good to have you on-board. :D

Welcome Danielle88.

As the rest have said letters sent out to contractors will at least show that you are keen and enthusiastic about becoming an electrician and the fact that you are putting yourself through college and I know that's not cheap will hopefully impress your local contractors enough for you to get some offers of a trial with any of them. I wish you all the very best for your future career..

Something you could try is to sign up with local employment agencies.
