Hello everyone,

just another sparky trying to broaden his knowledge. my name is John. I started my electrical career 31 years ago.

I live in the north of Australia in a place called Darwin. the only thing of notoriety of this place is the amount bloody big crocodiles and a bloody big wind called Cyclone Tracy that devasted Darwin on christmas day 1974 when i was 10 YO. heres link of devastation

I am part of a electrical forum in Aus called phased.com.au with about 1500 posts. We have about 3500 members on that forum. certainly does not appear to have the following you guys have though. might have something to do with the population. you think.

Anyhow i joined up tonight (my time) as i am having problems sourcing technical information on an English product (I believe it to be.) Hoping you guys might be able to assist. will find the appropriate section and post there.

Cheers everyone, John

PS. i know your going to do us at the Olympics shortly so i wont argue with you guys there.

As for the Ashes i have a feeling the time at the top (EDIT: for you guys) may change shortly. :D

Welcome to the forum, John - It's good to have you on-board. :)

Don't start me on Australia Vs Wales, Rugby Union though. Grrr. :(

:D

Actually wasnt that fantastic.

caught a bus home from a major racing event here in Darwin on Saturday night. The bus stopped in front of a local pub near my friends house. we went in for a drink and caught the last ten minutes of the game. topped the night of real well. :Applaud

When it comes to Australia and Rugby they have more Jam than Hartley's, and they make the stuff. :slap

Welcome John. ghood to have you with us. Spent a few years over the water from you in NZ so familiar with AS/NZ standards
thanks for the welcome james and batty.

never been to the land of the long white cloud rev. i here its a beautiful place.

how did you find the transistion between the two standards. i have skimmed read a few of the threads on this site and must admit some of the terminologies totally throw me.

Indeed a beautiful place. I have residency there and visited a couple of years ago to catch up with a few people. Sadly, cost of living etc too high for me to live there. I had to do a regs course and stage 3 practical to get registered and practicing licence in NZ. Worked in heavy industry when I came back to UK so didnt have too much of a problem although I have since done the 2381 (IEE Regs) and 2391 (test and inspection) courses. Currently work in a ferry port.

Any questions or terminology queries just ask! were quite friendly and helpful and I know what its like to work down under so might understand where you are coming from.

James

Thanks James, i am noticing differnces but it really is just the standard references that is bamboozling me. when you guys refer to standards by alpha/numerical im stumped as i have no idea. googling will fix that easy enough though.
