I keep looking at the picture of the switch.

It's screwed to the door frame FFS, so where is the cable run, behind the door frame ?

And the swith must have a gap between it and the tiles

I would say he's trying to use "scare tactics".
Which as I have said before makes him the dumbest cowboy on the planet, inviting scrutiny of his work in a court of law.

Yes is poses many questions, the most obvious being it would have been a whole lot easier, neater, and legal to have just used a b****y pull switch for the light. I'll bet the gap is just full of silicone

This can be a very stressful time for you, and from all the evidence you have supplied so far you are not in the wrong. We can all give advice but we are only electricians.

If you contact Andy he will be able to inspect the works carried out and give an up to date certificate on the condition of the wiring. You must get in touch with a solicitor, the first appointment could be free, and you will need expert advise.

The certificate of conformity is worth nothing, and he has broken more regulations than you could shake a cat at.

Keep all paperwork, and log any calls this builder makes and try to get down his exact wording during any of these calls. You yourself could be in a legal position of breaking the regulations, this is because the Part P of the building regulations place the responsibility with the home owner, however I would not worry about this, you probably thought that the work being carried out was to all standards and regulation.

Before you report him to anyone get a proper electrician (Andy) to access the work, when you have a copy of the report contact a solicitor. Any costs in putting the work right could be claimed via damages from this builder including any outlay you have had.

When you have seen a solicitor contact your local Building Control, Trading Standards, and give that nice bloke a call from that TV show Rogue Traders, and come back and let us know when the program is going to be shown :) :)

On the subject of getting some legal advice: does your home insurance have a legal advice add on? Might be called something like "home protection" or something. It's an option on most policies, so worth checking.

Before I go to bed attached is the Certificate of conformity that I have received and a pic of the swich in the bathroom
that switch should not be there. would have been easier / safer to use a pull switch in the first place

wonder if he even checked the earthing?

that 'certificate of conformity' is not recognised by 7671. looks lore like something has has bodged himself. list of work done doesnt make much sense either. and if he was a spark, he would also know that IEE changed name to IET a few years ago.

no idea what this 'COIB' is either.

seems as though he is constantly digging himself a deeper hole, especially giving this 'certificate of conformity'

any chance of a pic of the consumer unit?

if you want to to do a PIR, give me a call, others have already posted a link to my phone number

No problem Chez,

Speaking of Stars, feel free to press the Black one on the bottom left of my posts. ]:) Go on, I dare you. :D

I have had another electrician look at the electrical work he carried out and he has told me that due to the 17th edition regulations the 10A 1 Gang 1 Way Switch fitted 8cm away from my shower unit is illegal and should be a pull switch is this correct?
Is this switch for the lights? I may be over analysing this, but it reads to me as though this is the isolator (I use the term loosely!!) for the shower...

Pictures on post #38.

Doc H.

Thanks Doc, have seen the pic, but as I couldn't see either a shower switch or another light switch, it put doubts in my mind...
