Iv been asked to supply an outdoor hot tub in a friends garden, on the manufactures info it says it is 3kw but on the phone the customer service guy is telling me the hot tub requires a 32A supply, seems abnormal I know but he's adamant. 3kw is around 12.5A so it's quite a big difference just looking for a bit of advice on what to go by if anyone could help or guidance iv never installed one of these before

Always got by the written word - ie, the instructions, as if something happens to go wrong, you have them to fall back on. If you listen to the customer service chap, and things do go wrong, He can just deny all knowledge of giving you the incorrect information.

Could this be inrush when it starts heating?

Also how long is the run from the CU?

And hell, whilst I'm here - what's the earthing arrangement?

:D

3kw isn't that much juice for heating an external water tub......

Whats the normal rating of these beasties...?

ffs 3kw could work off a 13A plug!!!

just like Gran's old 3kw 3-bar electric fire!!!

Do have a link to the instructions you have Billyboy???

With the tub not being in place yet iv generously measured the cable being 25m it's a PME system so TNC-S even with an allowance of start up current I find it highly unlikely to be up to 32A then again iv never done one before. I thought maybe the pumps could have something to do with it but they have no rating in terms of power shown in the manufacturers info

Nope no link sorry was only shown the tub via the woman's phone didn't catch the website

I would think it will have a heater so possibly will need a 32 amp supply. I have done a few and they generally need more than a 13 amp supply.
