My 55 Vauxhall Combo 1.7CDTI does about 35mpg plodding round town with roof rack and pipe carrier on, going up to about 42mpg when driving on A roads.

Without a roof rack on I got 48mpg on a long motorway run at 75mph with a full load in the back, and I have found there is about a 5mpg difference between having the roof rack on or off.

I've also noticed a difference when my right foot is feeling heavy after a long days work and I can't wait to get home!

I've read loads of horror stories about van drivers getting done for speeding as they don't realise that the limit for vans (except car-derived ones) is 60mph... has anyone here had any problems of that nature??
This is part of the reason why I bought the Vauxhall Combo as it's max gross weight is under 2000kg and therefore I can legally do 70mph on a dual carrigeway. Once over 2000kg this drops to 60mph dual and 50mph on single carrigeway roads.

My Dad got a ticket for 81mph in a transit on a dual carrigeway whilst other cars were overtaking him, he was 21mph over and they were about 13mph over so easy choice for the hard working boys in blue.

Are you sure your van is classed as car derived I would be very careful if I were you wouldn't want you to get some points on your licence. Link below about combo vans.
