I had a letter asking me to volunteer for a long running medical monitoring scheme to assess the use of a Mobile phone against the possible appearance of a tumor in the brain . My details had been passed on by the network.

So , they are not safe after all then . I have never liked even carrying the things around TBH .

On a scale of 1 - 10 and compared with a schoolkid's usage , mine would be 1 , schoolkid's 10 .

I wonder if we should be adding these things to the other joys we have stored up , like asbestosis. X( X(

basically its microwave energy, you notice how hot your ear gets after a long call on a mobile! I worked for a telecomms co in NZ and had to work right next to a large microwave dish with big warning signs about keeping at least 2M away from it. As I was right next to it I asked my account manager if it was safe. His reply? "what I do is put a meat pie in my pocket and if I feel it getting warm I stop working there"

Thankfully I didnt have to work there for long!

I believe its like alot of things they are in their infancy and we wont know the full extent of any damage they can/do do until 20/30 years down the line.

I believe the early mobile phones where you had the car battery with a handset would of been alittle safer on the brain as all the electriconics where on the bar not next to your ear ROTFWLROTFWLROTFWL

I tend to use the squawk box in the van when possible, to avoid clamping the handset to my ear. No idea if it makes any difference !!

I don't think kids should be using them like toys TBH .

I'm not too worried myself. I have more concerns about the various preservatives in food and pollutants in the air and drinking water than my mobile phone.

We might get run over tomorrow. One thing's for sure Deke, none of us will get out of this life alive.......

thats right patch, all the wirless stuff going round, pesticides, pollution, loads of things against us

Brain tumours have been around longer than mobile phones so how can they say mobiles are possibly causing them?? ?:|

OMG ! thats brought down a great cloud of depression on the proceedings. Good job the Stanley knife is in the van , this is a right wrist slasher , can't mention footy either.

I don't buy that. Brain tumours have been around for ever, but all cancers have 'risk' factors. A common example is lung cancer; if you are a smoker you are many more times at risk of contracting lung cancer, BUT some none smokers get it.

So what we will be happening is a long tern study on many thousands of people and they will look and see of those who got brain tumours was mobile phone use linked as an associated risk factor vs those that never got brain tumours.

Theses studies go on all the time. I'd encourage anyone to join in as we need the real people's data to ascertain risk factors.

There are only two things that we can be certain of in life: Taxes & Death. :(

If mobile phones were really bad for you why would they put the towers on the top of schools! :innocent
Simples... MONEY!

One of our local fire stations has mobile transmitters on top of their training tower which is 4 storeys high , was interested to find out during last years open day , they are NO LONGER ALLOWED TO USE THE 4TH FLOOR for HSE reasons ! ! ! ! this has only come about since the mobile mast was installed.
