Chuffing wholesalers managed to **** my days work up.

Ordered 20 surface 600x600 cat2 fittings, what gets delivered to site ****ing 600x600 cat2 lay-in units & what do 600x600 cat2 lay-in units = , yes they equal a wasted day.

Out of all the account applications I've done, the only required stuff is good credit, referrences, bank statements etc. Nothing about electrical qualifications.

It's not in the wholesalers interest to know that, they're just there to sell you stock.

I know builders who have trade accounts at various independent wholesalers I use.

I have an account at a local plumbing merchant.

Just like many of you probably have travis perkins accounts.

If I was a wholesaler I'd rather give an account to a plumber who paid his account within 30 days than an electrician who took 3 months.

Just saying

Wholesalers are just glorified shopkeepers and a sale is a sale these days. You will see signs at various places saying "Trade only" but Electrical Wholesalers don't bother . They do ,generally , charge them more.

I thought I'd see if I could join Electricfix as I use Screwfix anyway for general DIY bits. They wanted to know what qualifications I had and when I'd taken them. All seemed fair enough, I met their criteria with recent 2330, 17th and EAL Part P so I joined. The girl asked at what college I'd taken the stuff etc. The discounts on sparking stuff is OK, yes you can get the stuff cheaper if you shop around but it's another catalogue to read on the loo! I was half impressed that they were interested in qualifications. One "bonus" is that if I need general Screwfix stuff I can go to the Electricfix counter which is generally much quieter, no queues etc.

Was in there the other day and I asked out of interest "What qualifications does a person need to join Plumbfix?". Expecting the guy to say "C&G in Plumbology, Gas Safe etc" he just said "Once you're registered for Electricfix you're automatically registered for Plumbfix...weird...I'm now a plumber then!

I hate wholesalers. Why can't they have similar prices, I hate having to ask every time, because if you don't ask you end up paying some silly ammount.

I do like screwfix for some things, also plain pricing is good.

Screw fix have taken Henley blocks out of general catalogue and put them in the electrifix one. I believe to stop diyers playing with the tails!!! I could be wrong though.

I prefer the Lucy MINS, they have a more flexible enclosure and come with funky little blanking/reduction inserts so you can use them for 'temps', recover the tails and fill in the holes OR use the blank to reduce hole size if using 6/10mm tails. My preference, I don't like the brittleness [if that is a word] of the other makes. And having been on the wrong end of a double pole unit [back in the day] when it went all 'Holly Willoughbies' on me...and not in a good way, I will never use double pole ones.... :coat
