No it doesn't. The odds remain the same.

If you have three sons the chance of your next child being a boy remains 50%!

If you have 3 sons and you try for another, you deserve everything that comes your way:_|

Here's one I had the other day.... I'll have to order my DB9 on Monday!!

Dear Friend,

I am Mr. Dxxxxxx xxxxx, the accounting officer-in charge of the private

investment section of the above named Finance house. I have decided to

contact you on a business transfer that requires confidentiality, trust

and transparency, where both of us have a lot to benefit. During my

investigation and auditing in the accounts section, my department came

across a huge sum of money belonging to a deceased person, a foreigner

who died on January 7, 2004 in an auto crash.

This Fund has been dormant in his account in the private investment dept

without any claim to this fund in our custody, either from his family or

relation. The said amount is (7.5 million pounds) which is about

($15million US Dollars). As it might interest you to know, I got your

contact through international business inquiry and my search for a trust

worthy business partner that can handle a business of this magnitude

meanwhile all arrangement to put claim to this fund in your name as the bonafide

next of kin to the deceased, and get the required approval to transfer

this money to a foreign account, have been put in place

However, the next line of action to conclude this transaction in the next 10

working days, will be relayed to you as soon as you indicate your interest

in this transaction. I must also inform you that upon the completion of

this transaction, you will be entitled to 40% for your role and assistance

and 40% will also be for me, while the balance will be used to cover any

expenses this transaction must have cost to have it successful.

Please, you have been advised to keep this to your self since I am still

in service and intend to retire after I conclude this project. I will be

monitoring the whole situation here until you confirm the money in your

account. I shall come down to the country of your nominated account for

subsequent sharing of the Funds according to percentages previously indicated

and further investment. Be rest assured that this is deal is 100% trouble and

scam free. Please send your reply to this email

including your phone number, so i can call you immediately for us to discuss

the modalities involved in this transaction to avaiod any delay.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Yours faithfully,

I get plenty of them EVERY DAY !!!

I just delete them, along with the ones allegedly from the Banks. X(

correct

but does the 'probability rule' give it a better than 50% chance of it being a girl

probability and odds are not the same thing.....

I would beg to differ. A probability (p) is expressed as a decimal (0.5) whereas odds are expressed as a ratio 1in2. They are the same

The difference would be a raffle where multiple tickets are drawn. As more tickets are removed from the pool the odds of the remaining ones being pulled fractionally increase.

Patch

you are right......

my head argues with it though....

a coin heads/tails

flip it 5 times probability gives it 3/2

but its a 50/50 chance each time

flip it 5 times again it comes up 4/1

so because its 1 in 2 chance of it being either then the probability of it being tails next time is higher

Useless information alert (it's what I'm best at):

Apparently, 54% of births are boys.

No idea why, but I would guess it's an evolutionary thing to slightly increase the number of hunter/gatherers in the population to ensure the population can feed itself in the event males are killed during the 'hunt'.

but dont women usually go to Asda?

or the other response was going to be

just how dangerous is it for a bloke to do the shopping?!

Its all how you look at it, the chance of you having a girl is 50/50 but if you asked the chance of having 3boys and 1 girl and its a lot lower.

If your asking for a sequence then its not 50/50. Only in one event.

If asked on the odds to toss a coin heads twice then the odds would be 1 in 4, as there are 4 possible outcomes HH TT HT TH

This past week has seen about a dozen of these damned things arrive on my ISP's server. Out of interest, I put some of the names and lottery details into Google and guess what?.......

All-bar-one came back with references to scams emanating from Nigeria.

If as much effort was put into honest work, I figure that Nigeria would be better-off.

.......

At this point I had better stop.......
