At work we have night storage heaters and are on econemy 7 tarrif. Until now we heat water using a small tank with an immersion when we need it - usually in the mornings.

I suggested we fit a timer and make the hot water on cheap rate electricity. As far as I can see it's on it's own MCB wired direct with a Neon FCU.

Would one of these be suitable? (It needs an over-ride and ideally a 7 day program as we don't need hot water on Sundays - usually).

Would you fit it before or after the FCU? I assume it's wired like a FCU - supply in supply out? L1 L2 N1 N2 & E?

Take immersion cable out of tank and wire into timer then take new flex from timer to tank job done. They do have overide on those timers.

Be gentle with me Batty

Cable from immersion to timer then from timer back to immersion?

Do you mean cable from immersion to timer, then to FCU so FCU isolates timer and immersion for maintanance etc?

Its getting a bit late but keep sw/spur so you can isolate supply if necessary. So go from sw/spur to timer and then timer to immersion.

Thought it was only a spur if off a ring - this is a dedicated immersion circuit? If you're getting picky!

:p
I always term fcu as either switch spur or switch spur with neon if have neon and unswitched spur if it does not have a switch.

Patch , that timer you show is a 24 hour one , means every day will be the same. You need a 7 day timer . Set it to come on about 2 hours before the Econ7 changes ( 0700hrs GMT ) , if there is no one there on Saturdays, omit Friday night. Don't forget Sunday night for hot water on Monday, you may need a boost during the day if its high usage.

On the ball as ever Sandra

Anyone know of a Sw FCU with a 7 day timer and over-ride button? (the best of both units)

I know I don't ask a lot :D

Paddy the one Ian showed is available in 7 day version you will be able to isolate immersion with this if necessary. They are easy to fit but remember to put a link in between two of the terminals as shown on the installation instructions. I think they are between

Coulda fooled me Patch, our local vet charges a bloody fortune.Hey ! Tell you what ! How about you write a book about your adventures as a vet in the Yorkshire Dales.

You could call it ...... erm... lets see now ... Ah! YES !! .. how about " All Creatures Great and Small" .... or .." I Really wanted to be a Sparks " :Y
You should know that your hourly rate doesn't go straight into your pocket!

We have a surgery to buy, heat, light, furnish (warm water!), receptionists to pay, equipment to buy support staff, stock to hold.

We have a reasonable ammount of slow payers and bad debt - we can't refuse to see a sick animal no matter how unlikely they are to pay. We have farmers paying their bill 3 or 4 months behind.

I spend 1/4 of my life on call - I am this very minute

I'd earn much more as a dentist, doctor, lawyer, accountant etc

Vets are cheap - who else will turn out and see you in the middle of the night for
