Need to source a large number of LED down-lighters for my self build. Need to be fire rated. Can anyone recommend a good source of quality items and not made in China. Also how many lights per square metre of ceiling of a given output say 4 W at height of 2.4 M would you suggest?

Thanks

Aurora and Scolmore brought out a unit with a ten year warranty!

Then a week later the. Aurora offering suddenly went to a five year warranty!!!

I have fitted loads of the Scolmore Inceptor....really good AND. Fits in a 63mm void, and comes witha click connector.

Not cheap, but a ten year warranty sold it to me!

Just sleighing

Do they "need" to be fire rated?

Often not needed for a domestic.
On a VERY slight tangent

If you are unfortunate enough to use the AMTECH software, the section on inspection has a box for '"are recessed lights covered in insulation OR protected from same by the use of insulation displacement guards OR THE USE OF FIRE RATED FITTINGS!"

Interesting?

Typical Amtech, not a clue!

Q: How would fire rated fittings protect against overheating by insulation?

A: They would not!

Q: Would they contain the fire they generate from overheating?

A: No!

Obviously all IMHO.

Photonstar eco600. British made. Wide beam angle... 70 degree from memory. Fire rated. They might be able to help with quatities.

I really like this led down lighter.

Halers h2 pro are spot on and as a forum member you get discount if you order them from fastlec who are a forum sponsor.

There's JCC led7's too, with a 5 or 7 year warranty (I can't remember which) but I would also recommend the halers h2 pro

Agree Andy, I used Halers H2 units with the black bezel for the last job I did.

Cottage garage with black soffit, so the Haler did just the job for matching the colour, the only problem I have is because they are so bright (on/off via a timer) they stop the 2x steinel pir's operating the lamp post lights, so the next little job is to insert a dimmer on the timed circuit.

Many thanks for all  your recommendations I have had a quick look at them on the web and I will now try and actually get to see some. I did not realise just how expensive they are and as I need some 200 or so its going to be quite a bill. A friend of mine has bought a load of unbranded down lighters with no spec from China at $4 each he gave me one to try ages ago but I did not test it as it basically just looking at it it is clearly rubbish and I would not fit one in a chicken house. A local wholesaler I deal with and is also a friend only sells Robus and he says that there have been no complaints but I know that these are made in China so is not favoured.

TLC Electrical do one of their own - but it's going to be from Asia somewhere!

Good output, dimmable as standard, different coloured bezels, but the thing I like is the lens is changeable.  Put two in a small ensuite and with the standard lenses the light was too uneven. Changed to 90deg lens and perfect. Saved me another fitting.

Don't forget that comfortable lighting is NOT just what comes down from the ceiling! Unless you're redoing something very large then at 200 downlights you possibly may be overdoing them a bit...

Working on the basis of only number of lights per square metre is not the ideal.
