I'd appreciate any feedback. I'm currently doing a large electrical upgrade in a lesiure centre. I've installed a load of 600x600 LED dimmable panel lights and wired them according to the manufacturers instructions. When I switched on 16 brand new light fittings today 5 out of 16 drivers failed. Is it normal to have so many drivers blow at once on commissioning?.... has anybody else experienced this problem ? Thanks

you didnt connect them between phases, did you?!

that a very high failure rate, have you tried the manufacturer to see what they say about it?

was there any more elsewhere previously installed that work OK?

No they were connected to a healthy 230V. My colleagues are upgrading another lesiure centre 10 miles away and have not had any problems yet. The boss phoned the manufacturers and they were a little puzzled to hear the news. I've concluded it may be a faulty batch.

More Info on the 600X600 panels, do they integral driver per panel, and 230V input ?
The driver comes separately but in the same packaging. It has a 230V input (brown and blue) with red, black, blue and white cores on the output side. The red and black connect to the red and black inputs on the LED, the blue and white are for dimming via a separate 24V supply via a dimming controller. I have'nt installed the dimming controller and accessories yet so for now I just put the blue and white into separate connectors - so they are not connected to anything. The lights are designed to work with or without the dimming equipment.

Yes I have used the same type of driver without using 0-24V dimming and just put a pair of chocs on them.

Like you say sounds like a dodgy batch, new technology and we are the testers for the products.

I have 12 LED ground lights supposed to last 50,000 hours, lasted 18 months and 50% have failed, and only been on a few times for a couple of hours each time,

Cheers Steve, yes I have been informed that these lights will last for 25 years ! .... I have my doubts, especially with drivers like these !. I'm quite amused really as I had to have scaffolding built over a stairwell, the scaf was only there for a day, so I had to get my lights (2x 1200x600) and drivers in quick ! I suggested to the clerk of works that I extend the cables by a couple of metres and put the drivers in an easily accessible location for future maintenance but he refused me permission. If one of the drivers goes on those two then it will be another scaffolding job to replace it !.

I doubt that they were from a good manufacturer. In fact I would guarantee they are Tamlite rather than something like Philips.....
I cannot remember the make offhand. I will check tomorrow but it's one I've never heard of !. Aparrently they cost £149 each ! (fitting + driver)
