Hey

I have a false ceiling within exposed oak floor joists. There is only 35mm gap between floorboards and plasterboard. I need to spur off ring main - I was going to use wago connectors and wago junction box - but the box wont fit in.

Is there any slimmer junction boxes available as maintenance free?

cheers

? all BOXES are maintenance free are they not ?

Tis the terminations inside inside that need to be the maintenance free bit....

so any box you got that is slim enough to fit the gap and big enough to get your bits in would do the job.

Maybe one of them 2G Surface Box | Screwfix.com

and stuff a blanking plate lid on it?

:coffee

Think that would be less than 35mm?

oh hang on.....

Hey thanks for the replies -

Extend ringmain by using crimps
Can you put three cables into a crimp?

mechanical strain may be placed on the terminations of the

conductors within the junction box ? :C

Glands..... straps...... cable clips.... screws and or other suitable fixings...

Its NOT rocket science to ensure your cables are secure in or around an enclosure!!

Have a look in the back of a light switch or socket outlet..

No need for strain relief clamp...

IF the incoming cables cannot move much with respect to the box no??????

;)

No thats why I said "Extend the ring main"....as in you'll have to extend both legs to your new accessory making it part of the ring rather than a spur.

So you'll need:

  • 2x boxes (unless you can fit all joints in one box...unlikely)
  • 4x blue crimps
  • 2x red crimps
  • 2x green yellow sleeving
  • 1x ratchet crimp tool

Or just use the ashley box I linked to & drop a spur in.

Or if you are local I will come round and do it at mates rates

hey ok if ring is extended do you have to use choc box. Can you use just heat shrink ?
