So here's the final result of my first go at cable trays, FP200, swa cable and MICC. As you can see it was only a tiny bit of it and it still caused me a lot of grief! :)

It's by no means perfect, so any suggestions and tips how where I could be improve would be nice. My tutor picked up on a few things, such as (I don't know how well it shows up in the photo) the live and cpc from the FP200 should be on the left of the circuit breakers as they are very close to and may touch the bus (buss? How many S's? :) ) bar.

Now fingers crossed it will upload... :)

Right...brace yourself!

Is the CU metal or plastic?

I don't like bringing cables sideways into accessories as there is always a chance of the faceplate screw damaging the cores

Are the cable ties plastic or metal? Fireproof cable when used for alarm systems has to be supported by fireproof fixings....they don't all have to be fireproof, just sufficient to stop the cable going all Bruce Forsyth ( droopy!)

I always snip the corners from the tray to stop the sharp corners catching my delicate and porcelain like skin

Is it a brass bolt earthing the SWA or a galv gutter bolt?.... I dislike gutter bolts except when used on tray, and stopped using Banjos when Earth nuts came along.

It may be the perspective of the pic but, the offsets on the top tray do not appear symmetrical.

Photo is F blurred when blown up, so it is hard to see any other bits on it BUT in all fairness it looks very good to me, and for a first attempt. 8/10

Given the size of the board the sideways entry maybe due to not exceeding the bending radius.

Looks like a good task, certainly more interesting than the ones I done at college!

Cheers for the feedback guys :D

I've just got in from work so I'm not in a fit state to answer any questionzzz zzzzz zzzz...

Also too angry to think straight as some of our not so lovely customers tonight felt the need to smash up mine and one of my collegues cars :( Both front windows smashed and a big dent in it :(

Anyway I'll try to answer any questions tomorrow night and try to upload a better picture. :)

It's metal.

Very good point. I'll keep that in mind for next time. The placing of the switch related to how much of the MICC that was left after a few failed attempts at terminating it as we weren't allowed to start again on a new piece of cable as it's so expensive.

Plastic. I presume that they are cheaper than the metal ones, but my teacher never mentioned that we should use them "in real life".

Another tip to file in my brain for future use :) Thank you! (So, what moisturiser do you use? :slap )

It's a brass bolt. What's a gutter bolt? I don't think I've come across one of those.

It's not too bad, but no it's not quite symmetrical.

I'll find you a better photo, got a few close ups as well somewhere on my phone. Thank you so much for the feedback, I really appreciate it and it's great to get pointers from experienced people on here as well as my teachers. :D
Well done.  Do they let you liven it up ?
Thank you :D

I did get to liven it up, here it is:

They are also used on cast steel Guttering, maybe why they called them gutter bolts.  :innocent   :innocent   :innocent
10/10.....give that man a prize from the bottom shelf!

i think they get used for earthing up as most sparks have them handy, left over from cable tray and trunking jobs.

Brass for me every time

just trying

looks like you used them on the tray,

BTW, I know them as spouting bolts,

they have many names.

if anyone called them gutter bolts to me Id look at them like they were thick,

probably cos they are, they are spouting bolts, or roofing bolts, never heard them called gutter bolts before apart from a few thick people on here,!  ;)

I think a quick google will answer those in doubt, it's Gutter Bolts  :yellow card   :yellow card
