We seem to have broke our microwave. Its about 6 years old and probably not worth fixing but thought i would have a look.

The unit appears completely dead.  The 13A fuse in the plug is ok. All fuses, thermal cutouts etc internally are ok.

The oven is a CDA MC41SS which is built in. I ended up with it as it was the cheapest i could find at the time for a customer who then changed their mind, they paid the 'restocking fee' & return carriage so i kept it  :B-

This coil seems rather crisp to me

Any ideas ?

That circuit board is the main power one with the feed connected

Could be the fluxcapacitor................sorry couldn't stop myself.

Can't see the circuit diagram on the playbook.

Our daughter killed her corn bear (heat pack) in the microwave a few weeks ago... If the smell hadn't gone wed have bought a new one,,, they don't cost much nowadays.. but then again we only use it for defrosting bread (which I don't eat) and her heat pack so we don't really need one

Trouble is , as Sparkies, many of us tend to think the same I think ......Hmmmm  I could just pop the back off , might be something simple gone wrong.

Burnt out spade connector ......control fuse has dropped out ...come on ...we all do it .

As a 15 yr old apprentii ...     after night school     we used to go to a coffee bar/ burger joint/ sort of  2 Is  Rock n Roll joint  ( All Buddy Holly & Chuck Berry back then)    So the Juke box packs up , someone says "Deke'll fix it , he,s an electrician"

Owners talked me into taking a look and I spotted the speaker leads had been yanked out of the main unit  and armed with a bread knife I reconnect them .   After peering in the big case where all the records were selected I hit the freeplay button , close it up and Elvis was off to Heartbreak Hotel once more .

After refusing payment  I had a free coffee/ burger every time I went in thereafter.    :)

Ah, yes! It has screws in it therefore it must come apart, therefore it must be fixable............or "those rivets can be drilled out easily" ! Done in your own time for nothing other the satisfaction of doing it. I have sheds full of things like this.

This I can relate to!.

I had one of my computer screens in pieces the other week soldering in new capacitors as it had fallen victim to capacitor plague and they had swelled up like balloons

Fuse finder in pieces on a clients bench in a warehouse I was doing an EICR on as the leads to the coil in the nose had come off

Loop tester apart on desk looking at failed load bank resister, I then sent it to the instrument service place who told me that the failed resister was an effect rather than cause of teh fault and it needed new PCB at 230 quid!

Took an old digital camara apart when it was coming up with lens failure, the cog that moves the lens back and forth has stripped because it was plastic, couldn't fix it but never bought that make again

Well,  i ordered the part Onoff linked to . It arrived yesterday, i fitted it today and all is working fine  :Salute
Good stuff! One in the eye for the throw away society!

My mate's an ex Saffa navy sparks and is constantly amazed at the "it's cheaper to throw it away" attitudes he sees over here. Guess it comes from the days of sanctions in ZA etc.
