Minor works Form can anyone advise ? existing ring circuit, adding a 13A FCU to power fixed 2kw max wall heater, in bathroom outside zone 2, no other way to run cable , proper expensive tiled floors throughout , bathroom is single story extension , only lighting circuit in place, nearest point for 13a fcu is bedroom , which backs onto roof of single story extension.

Would this require just a minor works because a new circuit is also being added

and its not a special location , that was my quandary

FCU being taken from upstairs ring also

New circuit?

From upstairs out into conduit down external wall & back into bathroom?

FCU being taken from upstairs ring also
The problem is?

Plenty of places wired in this manner, go back a few years here it was common practice to drop on socket into the kitchen from the upstairs ring.

EIC for new circuit

MWC for extended circuit

luckily the extension single storey where bathroom is has a roof small, luckily i can access has loft hatch too, backs onto house back bedroom where i can pick up the upstairs ring, this will be the route for the 2.5 from FCU , then 20mm square conduit down the wall from bathroom roof to heater from above .  was just in a muddle on which cert , i have recently passed my NIC and this will be my first online certificate so i want to get it right.  so minor works it is , thanks guys

If a new circuit is also being added, put both on an EIC.If heater is in bathroom and cable is in heater then it is a special location.

Probably best to use an RCD FCU in bedroom if upstairs socket circuit is not RCD protected.

(Don't have option to edit my post?? Oh well,)

Don't get a neon FCU, can be annoying when trying to get to sleep :)

I WANT one of them bending springs,!!!!!!

I HAVE to have one,  :D

A special location is only the zones around a bath tub or shower tray. If the heater is not in the zone it is not a special location and is not notifiable.

Part-P document changed in 2013. check 2.6   .

I think pre 2013 the whole room was classed as a special location if it contained a bath tub or shower basin.

I knew that, sorry, thanks pewter.

RCD split board so all ok on that front, Ring Mains both protected, and yes definitely a FCU without a neon for the bedroom ; O)

Does the existing Ring Final circuit you intend to spur from have RCD protection? Also BS 7671 recommends that fixed loads of 2KW and over ought to be on a dedicated circuit.

Yes it has RCD protection , and there is no spare ways for an individual circuit , its a small house and has only 5 points on the upstairs ring also , so load should not be a problem 32x230=7360kw,  5360kw would be left , if new bathroom heater was on running at full 2kw. centrally heated also so no plug in portable 2kw fans will be used

but have spoke to the homeowner and in the summer he requires a garage supply so i will advise an 8 way RCBO metal now for regs ; O)

may aswell do board and individual circuit for bathroom wall heater makes sense
