Yes, you are correct, I also back up my RAID1 to USB HDD every so often.

But, I suppose RAID1 is what it is, not ideal, but cheap (ish) and simple.

The problem with different discs is that the data can be stored differently, esp with FAT or NTFS, and unless you use it as NAS then you have no os to get it back with?

To take issues / questions in order - 

Paddler - Yes, I can access CP via IP. I haven`t tried to alter disk settings, in any way.

Snakehips - I know; it was YOUR issue that pushed me to get a RAID array - cos I thought I was protected against failures.

I`ll be around tomorrow PM - if either of you ( or anyone else) are available & have any thoughts - I`ll be (really) glad to hear em, cos I`m peed off as you-know-what right now :( :(
